New update for Logic Pro users

Two new updates in a matter of months for Logic Pro Studio!

Seems like the Logic Team at Apple are either serious about keeping their customers happy or have been listening to us all and updating known issues Logic users suffer from. Either way this new update is very welcome!

The update resolves a few issues introduced by 9.1.2 such as…

Pedalboard stomp boxes ‘Classic Wah’ and ‘Modern Wah’ stoped responding to mouse in put.

Issue with TouchOSC control surface.

Resolves issue with i7 Quad-Core opening fewer audio processing threads.

Resolves issue with flattening and merging folder

Should You Update?

I have seen some reports on a few Mac forums forums that this update is a backwards step and threading has worsened on some machines? After reading a few problems other producers were encountering I was reluctant to go ahead and download the update.

However, my middle names are – live life on the edge!! So I decided to take the plunge and update.

AND? …

I can confirm that this update is a goer and I would recommend you all update. I haven’t run into any problems so far and have only seen improvements Threading on my machine has improved dramatically and Logic is now distributing across all cores better than ever. Especially with the PLAY engine which used to bottle neck all the time before 9.1.2 and now 9.1.3; running Logic in 64bit mode seems to be extremely stable too.

Below is a screen grab from a recent project which included 49 audio and instrument tracks using heavy processor plugins and software instruments.

Notice how 9.1.3 has spread everything evenly across all 8 cores.

Logic Pro Threading Evenly Across 8 Cores

How To Get The Update For Noobies

If you aren’t familiar with updating Logic Pro here’s how to do it.

Click on the apple icon in top right corner of your screen and select Software Update.

Apple Software Update

Your Mac will automatically check for new updates

Mac Software Update Screen

then simply follow the onscreen instructions to install. When you are all done just load up Logic and all the new updates will take effect immediately. Double check the Logic load screen reads 9.1.3 just like the picture at the top of this post.

Simple!

This tutorial is about the key decisions you need to make at the writing and production stage that will help you master your music to a louder average level.

How you put your music together and the instruments and arrangement you choose will have a massive impact your music’s loudness. You need to keep an eye on your music’s frequency balance and amplitude levels right from the first note you play. Learning which frequencies are perceived loud by your audience and which ones will kill your master is essential learning for anyone who masters their own music.

These tips will help give your music that professional edge before you even think about mastering!
